Hi, Im Kate Funk (she/her)!

Clinical Experience:

I’m a therapist with a virtual private practice and am licensed to work with clients located in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Texas. I specialize in helping people recover from eating disorders and have been in the field since 2012.

I earned a Master's Degree in Family Therapy from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA, and completed my undergrad in Psychology at Thomas Jefferson University (formerly Philadelphia University).

Dedicated to learning about the treatment of eating disorders, I have trained with The Renfrew Center, Monte Nido, and Affiliates, Within Health, Eating Recovery Center, The National Alliance for Eating Disorders, The International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals, Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, University of Texas, and Shepherd Pratt. I am a member of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals and the Houston Eating Disorder Specialists. I am a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) and consultant (CEDS-C), credentialed through the International Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP). I am available to supervise clinicians working towards credentialing through IAEDP.

I started my career post-graduation by creating an outpatient support group for eating disorders in southern New Jersey while serving as research coordinator for the University of Sciences Eating Disorder Research Program, which has since moved to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. From 2016 to 2020 I worked for Monte Nido and Affiliates in intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, and residential treatment. I had the unique opportunity to travel throughout the country, supporting the company's various locations. I also assisted in opening two treatment programs, a partial hospitalization program in Pennsylvania and a residential facility in Texas.

Since branching out into private practice in 2019 I have served as a consulting therapist for Within Health and am currently facilitating LGBTQ+ and Midlife and Beyond support groups through The National Alliance of Eating Disorders. Throughout my career, I have sought opportunities to volunteer with the National Eating Disorder Association, The Renfrew Center, and the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals.

I believe eating disorders affect the entire person and family system, and therapy can be a pathway to healing. With personal experience battling and recovering from an eating disorder, I know first-hand that full recovery is possible! You can read more about my personal experience on my blog.

I aim to make therapy feel like a conversation with a wise old friend. I utilize tenets of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Internal Family Systems therapy, and some humor and storytelling along the way. I aim to be an authentic human first, and a therapist second, and I want my clients to feel heard, supported, and accepted.

Ok great, but who is Kate Funk, beyond a therapist?

My pronouns are she/ her, and I identify as queer and neurodivergent. I have lived experience recovering from an eating disorder, addiction, and PTSD.

I grew up in Southern NJ, at the beach, and I LOVE the ocean. I grew up surfing, beach combing, and spending most of my time outside. I find nature so healing, and I try to go outdoors as much as possible. I am a huge animal person, and I currently have two dogs and a cat. We had up to 4 dogs at one point, which was mayhem, but I loved it. I volunteer on weekends at a dog shelter. I also love art and am usually painting or working on some silly craft. If you come to therapy with me, you will see an abstract mural I painted behind me.

I like to think of myself as an advocate, and I am super passionate about human rights, mental health, feminism, and animal welfare.

Here’s me and my first born Dinner, he is obviously a recovery supporting pup

Let’s work together! Email me to set up a discovery call!
