Do you offer introductory/ discovery calls for potential new clients?
Yes! I offer free 15-minute discovery calls to make sure we are a good fit; feel free to send me an email at kate@katefunkmft.com to schedule a call
How do I schedule an initial appointment?
Please email with “scheduling” in the subject header, and I will schedule you typically in the next week or two.
Where do we meet?
-Sessions are typically conducted virtually through HIPAA-compliant Doxy; the link will stay the same: https://doxy.me/katefunkcounseling. At the time of our session, meet me at that link. Sessions are typically 50 minutes but may run for 60 minutes occasionally. Shoot me an email if you have any questions or struggles connecting!
Do you offer appointment reminders?
Yes! When you fill out the introductory paperwork, please select that you would like appointment reminders by text or email. Please note that I am in New Jersey, so my appointment reminders are in the East Coast time zone. However, I do work with clients in Texas, in the central time zone, so please be aware of this. If you live in Texas, you are one hour behind the East Coast time zone; if your appointment reminder says your appointment is at 2 pm EST, that means it is 1 pm CST. Please reach out if there is any confusion.
What can I expect after scheduling an appointment?
Please complete the intake paperwork on my online portal, Simple Practice. You should have received a link to access this portal. If you haven’t, please let me know via email: kate@katefunkmft.com. The portal will allow you to access documents I may send you occasionally. If you have any questions or need to reschedule our appointment, please email me using the email above. Our first session will be an hour of informational gathering. I will ask you about what is bringing you into therapy, past therapy experiences, a brief family history, and your goals for treatment. Some clients find it helpful to write down things they want to mention in sessions, but that isn’t necessary if you don’t find that useful.
How does billing work? Do you take insurance?
I do not take insurance, although I can offer you a superbill at the end of each month to submit to insurance if you have out-of-network benefits. If you would like a superbill, please let me know. Sessions typically cost $150 per 50 minutes, but I offer a sliding scale for clients in need. Please leave a credit card on file in my introductory paperwork, which I will bill after each session. I will also use this credit card for any no-show fees that you may incur. I don’t use the billing function on my online platform, Simple Practice, so please disregard that if, at times, it says you have a bill due.
What type of therapy do you do?
I offer individual and family counseling specializing in eating disorders, body image, trauma, and comorbid anxiety and depression. I utilize tenets of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Internal Family Systems therapies.
What will therapy be like?
I aim for sessions to feel like a conversation with an understanding, authentic fellow human being. I want to get to know you, support you, and encourage you to make changes to care for yourself so you can go after your goals. Feel free to talk to me about anything you’d like! Nothing is TMI; nothing is off-limits.
